I am interested in learning more about the older Oriental coins. Primarily those that have the square hole. I'll need books, websites and auctions/vendors.
So far I have the Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins (by century) set, and Chinese Cash Identification and Price Guide by David Jen. On order is Cast Korean Coins and Charms by Velde & Hartill.
It's only a matter of time before my study of the Chinese coins overlap with the Korean, Vietnamese, et. al., so suggestions in that area are welcomed as well.
@chute72, my go-to for Chinese cast cash is Hartill's other book, but my collection is quite limited. Also, over in the ancients section of CCF, we have a sticky thread that will be of interest as it covers confirmed sellers of fakes as well as sellers of real coins:
Thanks Spence. I'm not really sure I should be biting off such a big chunk at this time, but I'm probably better starting off now, than 10 years from now.
Try my other book "Cast Chinese Coins" from Amazon. The jen book is not highly recommended - hard to follow and inaccurate. I also have written one on Japanese coins "Early Japanese Coins", also on Amazon, if you are interested. Best, David Hartill
