Greetings Gents and Ladies,
I came across a quarter that is missing a number in the year stamp. Does this make it more valuable?

It's difficult to say what you have without photos of the coin.

@catlady, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes having a pic of your coin will help. There is more than one reason why a number might be missing from the date on a coin.

OK, I'll see if I can figure out how to post pics. I'm new at this. Directions would be nice.

Under the banner ads at the top of the page find and click on the "Tutorial" box - second subject down is how to post images (pictures). It takes a little practice to figure out but once you do it's pretty easy.

It looks like the 3rd number was just smooshed, like there was something in the way when struck.

@catlady, those are great pics for a first-timer. Nice job!

US coin errors are not my specialty, but one possibility is that there was some grease in the die when this coin was struck. This can prevent some of the details from striking up in a design. Here is a link to a thread where this situation was previously discussed.

Only when they are extreme. With 80% of all devices missing, they get interesting.
