Anything with a dead person on the obverse will be easy and relatively inexpensive to complete (except Lincoln Cents).

I would second the Jefferson nickel album. You can accumulate a beautiful collection just from getting nickel boxes from the bank and roll hunting. Just keep upgrading as you go. The Whitman Classic Album really sets them off too.

Kennedy halves are a quick, fun set to build from boxes--ignoring the proofs and NIFC, you should be able to complete it in less than 5 boxes. I lucked out and was able to finish the (circulation) set in 3 boxes, including the silver, and all the clad in a flashy MS64+.

The most critical question is, what do you want a full set of? What draws you to it? History? Art? Value? Magpie-like obsession with shiny things?

Since we are in the Main forum, have you considered anything besides US coins? OFEC (One from Every Country) sets are fun, challenging, educational, and fully supported by very nice templates that you can print out online.

My 2016 goal was a Japanese type set; I started out with a handful of junk bin coins and a pocket full of change that a friend brought back from vacation in 2009. By December I had one of the most complete collections on this forum, behind gxseries and maybe Bungle. It was much more fun and educational than thumbing through roll after roll of nickels looking for the 1939-D.

Definitely history, some art (there are obviously designs that I find more appealing than others). I'm not necessarily interested in value at this point. I'm very Type A and a little OCD, so being able to complete any album would be personally satisfying. And yes, there's a little Magpie in me.

I would actually have a good start I think on an OFEC set, but I wanted to start with something that I'm more familiar with and could be found mostly in rolls/change and a handful, if that, of purchases. I'll keep it in mind, though!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Question: For something like a circulated Jefferson nickel set, I really like the looks of the Dansco album, but the Whitman is cheaper (about $5). Is there an upside to the Dansco?

Dansco's are alright but the Whitman Classic's dark blue color really sets off the nickels.

I have my Jefferson nickels in a Dansco album. I have my Buffalo nickels in a Whitman. They both look superb It is all about what you want.

Good point.

For the record, I do not dislike Whitman. Dansco is just what I happened to get (my grandfather bought my first two for me). They could have been Whitman and I would still be impressed.

Thanks. I do see how the blue-themed Whitman would be more aesthetically compatible with silver-toned coins.

I'm not worried about the price difference but more about quality and WHY it's cheaper.

For the record, I always said blue was my favourite colour and I don't know why.
