I found this coin in a roll and just noticed that it has a cut on the top of Jeffersons head, could this have been a minting error or just damage that it could have received some time in the last 78 years? I see the cut on the head, then no damage, then a small nick in the rim. Edited by Roman M 01/02/2017 05:49 am

likely hit with a flat-bladed screw driver or chisel, PMD.

It actually does look like it could have been a screwdriver. Does it have any value now even with the damage? Other than its face value?

Unless it fits a collection spot holder until a better coin comes along, I think its a spender.

i usually keep any nickels (pre 1950) they do not have much (if any premium value - unless in quite high grade).
yours is damaged, and I probably wouldn't keep it in that condition.
probably no added value - to your coin (in my opinion).

unless it's a key date a cut like that renders a Coin valueless, other than its spending value.
