I was told this was a gaming token, but it doesn't look like any of the others I've seen.......and doesn't resemble some of the Lauer Spiel Marken tokens either. It's almost quarter sized and weighs 4.3g Edited by Missouri_John 01/03/2017 01:33 am

Are you sure it's a gaming token and not an experimental type coin? Looks a little like a braided hair cent with a totally different reverse.

The term "Our Country" was used on a few Civil War Tokens, but they were all small cent size.
The obverse does imitate a braided hair large cent.
I'm still thinking gaming token, but ill look at CWT once again to see if there are any closer matches, design element wise.

other than the reverse motto, I see nothing else similar in CWT

I've not before seen the OP's token, so I'd say that it's scarce to rare. I found a few specimens, having done a Google search. Here's a link to one that sold at auction ... http://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...en-173575596I agree that it's likely not a CWT. The "Our Country" reverse is similar to a button I recall seeing. Indeed, I ran across a discussion about another one of these tokens in another domain. Another collector said he thought it to be a game counter that was made by Scoville of Waterbury, Connecticut. I would concur with regard to the maker, as the Liberty head is very similar to that on other Scoville-made tokens ... While I can't dismiss the possibility that the subject token is a game counter, it could have been a promotional piece for Scoville. State militias were forming and quite active in the 1850's. All-in-all, this is a cool token that begs research.

This is a nice little mystery. I saw one other example of this token on an auction site, and it was gold plated.......but there was no solid background info on it.

The two Liberties are very close, if not identical. The game is a-foot. Or something like that.

A fun token mystery. I can't find any other helpful information, but I am subscribing in case more clues are discovered.

The symbolism of the eagle atop the globe is reminiscent of the U.S. Marine Corps logo .... military-like. The militia button angle may yield some insight.
