It's raised, so may a die strike/defect? the rest of the coin is in pretty good shape but this section just jumped out at me. Report this Post to the Staff

(1938 Proof Nickels : Re-Engraved-Dies (RED) http://goccf.com/t/276157 The die looks pretty fresh when this coin was struck. I wonder if they made an adjust by engraving on this die. If were find several of these, it may have been engraved on the hub? A subject for thought going forwards. I would save this one for now. I know the 1968 year was the last year for this obverse master die. So they may have thought it needed a touch up? Watch for this years coins in your searches and see if we see a trend here, or if it is just one die that is affected. Added Not finding anything so far for this year/mint mark yet.
