My 3 yo daughter just received a collectible Mickey Mouse coin in a hard plastic case and with a nice box. I am torn. Do we keep it in the draw or do we let her chew on it?
She has a liking for coins anyone have kids who destroyed the coins?

Does it say "New Zealand" or "Niue" on it? The answer to this question dictates whether to keep or chew.

Personally, I wouldn't trust mint packaging to be child-friendly. It's possible it has sharp edges, and almost certainly will obtain sharp edges if it happens to crack.

Plastic items that do not fall into the "Mouthable toy" category are not tested for toxic leachables per FDA or CPSC. Don't let your kids suck on plastic objects, sharps hazards aside.

And if the case breaks open, isn't the Mickey Mouse coins painted usually?

If I was you, I would do her a favor and keep it in nice shape now, so she can enjoy it later on too.

NSS-52 asked: Does it say "New Zealand" or "Niue" on it?
It says Niue... so what is the prognosis? My curiousity is peaked.

If it said New Zealand it would be a fake. The Chinese crank these out by the thousands, but they used a New Zealand obverse rather than a Niue.

If it were fake I would still not let her chew. It could be lead!
