I specialize in Chinese cast coins, and I have found that around 10% of the cheap, common stuff (<$30) is fake, while 75% of the expensive, rare stuff (>$75) is fake. You can get hundreds of different varieties for under $5-10 each (and usually less that $2 each) with almost no worry about fakes. Be smart and do your due diligence, and you will almost never be burned by a fake. I have only been burned twice in my five years of collecting these.
