I was pretty confused when I found it. It looked like a silver proof at first sight from the edge, but when I looked at it, that big P mint mark kept me good and confused. Shouldnt that be an S? What the heck? It weighed 12.5 grams, so it weighed out as a 90%er, but that darn P mint mark was throwing me off, and I was trying to figure out how it could be fake. In the end I realized that since it seemed like a proof coin and silver it had to be something, so I googled it and found out. A Kennedy half dollar 50th Anniversary Silver. 1964-2014. Once I figured that out, I was pumped! http://www.coinweek.com/coins/comme...ited-300000/http://www.apmex.com/product/85981/...et-w-box-coa I got the Philadelphia coin from the set, I think it is the proof strike, but I'm wrong too often so who knows. Mintage, only 300,000. Coins like this are not found often, that is for sure. Also turning up a few rolls later was a 2003s silver proof. When I saw that edge, I was hoping it was another one of the 4 silvers from the commemorative set. But no, just a regular old silver proof, darn, hah. Perhaps some more might show up in my boxes tomorrow, or maybe I will get all skunks. Either way, a nice start to the new year for sure.

Nice find, I bet there is a father/grandfather out there that is pretty upset that they only have 3 of the 4 Kennedy's from the set.

I doubt there was only one taken from that set.

Here is the 2003 S. I hear ya on the others from the set likely being out there in the wild. I would love to find the W West Point mint reverse proof. To hunt a W minted half... whoa. W is the white whale. And I'm close to it, I can feel it, hahah.

yes Yinzi, that thought did cross my mind yesterday. If only a gold coin was part of this set, I'd say there might be a chance that one is floating around nearby. That would be amazing!

Nice! I don't collect these so I just noticed from your pic that there are some differences between the proofs. The hair under the R is different as is the lowest part of the earlobe. Is that typical?

skibdib, thanks for the link. I tried to find out on my own but must have been using inadequate search terms. Now, that I've been looking at these .... might just have to go get some.
