I've got my world coin binder out tonight looking for non-American stuff that's in decent shape that I can use other than my German States and UK which are mostly photo'd.

As this thread will progress, we will have to move from common machine struck coins to coins, well, less common and less machine struck. I suppose I might as well prepare you for it in advance I should really have posted this coin yesterday (for 1949), but I didn't realize the date until it was too late already, and I really wanted to post it anyway. Besides, technically speaking, the date converts to 1948/49 (if mostly the latter), so I suppose it can technically count? It's not like we're short of real 1948 coins, anyway. Kingdom of Yemen, 1/8 riyal, 1368 AH (1948/9 AD). As you can probably see, this little coin looks extremely crude - completely inappropriate for mid-20th century. (Sorry for the crappy photos, incidentally - smartphone camera under indoor lighting. I'm surprised it came out that good, really.)

Might as well post an actual nice 1948 coin... Saint Pierre and Miquelon, 1 franc 1948. (Compare and contrast the Reunion coin above.) The smartphone photos really don't do it justice. Aside from a slight pinkish tone, it looks as if it came from the presses yesterday. If there ever was a coin that deserved being called Brilliant Uncirculated, this is it. I'm honestly unsure how it managed to stay that way.

1947 is the latest year of the 1900s that I do not own a world coin from, so here is a common Canadian 5 cent piece:
