Great Britain 1921 shilling. 1921 was a very high mintage year for British coins, mainly because large numbers of 0.925 silver coins were being withdrawn and replaced. Even after the adoption of decimal currency in 1971 you could still get 1921 shillings and florins in your pocket change! Seeing these is always bittersweet for me because my childhood collection complete except for '16 and '21 D mints, all pulled from circulation and the change bowls in the school cafeteria, was stolen from the house when I was a teenager on family vacation. We lived way out in the country in the late 1950's and I cannot recall my parents ever locking up the house. When the police came, I expected them to dust every doorknob for fingerprints but all the officer did was make some cursory notes on a pad of paper and suggest we keep the doors locked.  That aside, here is my favorite 1921 Peace (I own five):   Also muddler's bluish Merc has to be one of the best bullion buys EVER. |
