Is this Machine Doubling? Hard to photograph but shows in date, 'T'and'Y' in LIBERTY and from nose to hair line.

That is Die Deterioration. It is the die showing on coins created the die is reaching retirement.

The " ghosting" effect is also caused by the high speed the presses operate at, causes heat. Have noticed this on early 1990's cents, seems to disappear after 1996. Wonder if copper coating on planchet was changed?

Also Oldjoeclark, Mechanical Doubling has distinct hard edges not the smoother of a DDO. Also the size of the digit is normal even with the ridge effect. Generally only the mintmark OR date are effected, very seldom are both...if you have a genuine where both are, buy a safe to put it in.
