I don't generally buy in this grade range, especially with problems. The scratch by the date is fairly prominent. Again, I fell into the trap of buying it because the price was low. Your thoughts on grade and what is a fair price for this would be appreciated. Price paid in 48 hours if anyone cares. Thanks! VG details. the gash is in a bad place and what appears to be cleaning lines across the obverse is really going to affect the value, however, if it fills a hole and you like it then as long as you did not overpay you done ok. the only problem is that every time you look at it, the first thing you are going to notice is that gash

It's most unlike you to grab something like this. Usually you've been showing us stunners.
Can't get better than VG details. I myself probably wouldn't buy it for more than $10, simply because I know I'll give it away to a YN or a collecting friend. Since I can't buy it for $10, then I don't need to worry about it.

VG details, $8-$10 would be a fair price.

I am looking for a capped bust dime for my type set so I spent the day today looking at about 4,000 capped bust dimes online. Kind of mind-boggling that you could do this from the comfort of your own home. One site had 2,300 of them for sale. I noticed this coin and it was selling for $16 + $3 shipping. The site was running a promotion and I had a $15 coupon, so I ended up paying $4. Sorry, it hasn't been 48 hours yet, but I don't think anyone cares how much I paid for it.
I wouldn't put this coin in my type set, but when this coin came up, it stood out because all the other coins selling for $16 were AG details problem coins. I had to reach coins selling for $58 to see one better than this one offered for sale. So I checked my price guide and a VG non-details coin was listed for $45. I figured a details grade one was worth maybe half that, and with the coupon, I was sucked into buying something I didn't need.
But I like the coin. My type set capped bust dime is likely to be fragile and in a slab, so I will enjoy handling this one, and I'll enjoy sharing it with family and friends.
I actually had a great time looking at the 4,000 coins today. Unlike the 3CS series, alongside the really ugly coins, there are many stunningly beautiful specimens in this series.
