@mohammed, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm pretty sure that you have yourself a fake there. It looks to me like the surface of the coin has multiple bubbles, as if it was cast. Also, I think that the weight should be more like 27 g. Here is a link to a real one for comparison: http://www.ancientimports.com/cgi-b...o.pl?id=3513I know that others will be along soon with additional (and likely better-informed) opinions.

An apparent match for the obverses of several documented RIC 33 fakes at Forum.

My example of the same obv type or rather the same Emperor. I never weighed mine but it seems close to the 25 or 27 grams an early Imperial sesterius.

For the heck of it I should also post the reverse of my Caligula sestersius. Actually I'm looking for a better one (not in the immediate future tho). This is the Ad Locuto Cohortium type issued upon his ascention in 37/38 AD. Also similiar to the invasion of Britain one in 41 AD. Aside from "the 3 sisters"; the most desireable type.

I met this poster yesterday at my LCS and directed him to post pictures of the coin in the forum as I have no experience in ancients. Apparently the coin was dug up from the ground somewhere in the Middle East.

It looks like possibly a cast counterfeit. Does the edge have a seam?

@mohammed, well yes we can pretty much confirm that you have a fake there as the real coins would not have seams. Still an interesting piece--just not worth anything.
