Is that your coin? Spitting eagle VAM. I've seen a lot of coins like this on ebay where they're intentionally washed out to appear dmpl.

This is not a knock on OP, but those photos appear to have been processed/altered IMO and are not indicative of what a true DMPL Morgan dollar looks like under most circumstances. Notice the loss of sharpness in the central strike areas due to excessive contrast adjustment and smoothing. True DMPL's are beautiful and should not be hidden behind a bunch of wizardry! The finest known is a single MS65 which shows more noticeable bag marks in the fields and less heavy contrast. OP's coin, if not altered, is easily better than the Key West specimen which brought $4700 as a PCGS MS64DMPL, or that NGC MS65 DPL (#914336-003) which is currently CC#1 for VAM 3 and brought in $27.6k @ HA's FUN sale in 2006. OP, if you own this one, some pictures in natural light would be most welcome, even if you don't think it looks as pretty or has quite as much black/white contrast.

I'm familiar with that ebay seller. Images are juiced to the max.

Can't an experienced photo editor 'make' that kind of photo by combining several pics? 20 inches of reflectivity?!!

It is a pity that DMPL's are subject to damage like any other coin, and have to be graded like any other coin.
I don't mind the wizardry here, even if it ain't true. We can still wish.

I agree to an extent -- I'd love to own a DMPL that looked like OP's.

These images show the effects of turning on the contrast tool to the max. The brightness was probably increased to some degree as well. Just like in the photo below, adjustments can be made to make a stunning cameo coin. This 1974-S proof Ike dollar was originally an image from Dave Enders. I edited the image to create an extreme cameo effect that has the appearance of an almost perfect DMPL. Notice how the contrast is extreme between black and white/silver just like it is in the above Morgan dollar images? I love these images, but I know they are artificial. The coin would not appear like this naturally to the human eye. It's more like numismatic digital art.

What? No guessing White Paint? Such coins do exist, but there has been white adjustment on the centers with contrast doubled at the design element edges.

When you do get DMPL you really pay out the AZZ for them. Village Coin shop in Tampa was selling a 1885CC in MS63 that was DMPL and they wanted $900. They were selling an 1885CC in MS64 for $800. Both coins were graded and slabbed. Apart from these coins I think Village Coin shop are thieves without masks. I went to their website and read testimonials. It was piled on deep but still stank.
