I cut bid before the final winning bid. I could tell the bidder was considering throwing in the towel. If I would have won this I had a chance at completing a 1795 set faster than I thought. Oh well.

I agree. I just wasn't going to pay over $1800 for it.

Eye appeal wise that is a lovely example.

I myself am a sucker for circulation cameo like this one.

For me, and a lot of bidders, I'd rather pay $200 more and get a coin I couldn't live without. But I can see why this coin achieved this price.

Most folks are only ever going to own one and finding a "pretty" one for under $2000 is often difficult.

There is nothing rare about the 1795 half dollar unless it is in high grade (EF-45 or better). Another one will crop up before long. Just keep looking.
