The wife and I finally found time to put the Christmas decorations up just yesterday. Back in 2000 my Dad gave me this US Mint Christmas ornament containing a 2000-P Sacagawea dollar. I think that after spending most of the past 17 years in my attic (TN weather no less) she still looks pretty good. I do keep it in its original box, so I think that has helped preserve her minty luster. Whatcha guys think?

Interesting item. Do you have other coin related items on your tree? I'm not sure I could stand to see coins out in the wild without protection.

Yes, I have a 1998 Dime with a different ornate presentation. It still looks brand new as well. I don't think the Mint sells ornaments now, at least I haven't seen any on their site since I started collecting.

They used to sell spoons too, and other such items with coins features on them. But that's going back at least 10 years now.

Any chance that the coin is lacquered? It wouldn't be unheard of for such type of item.
Back in the 1990s the Mint sold a wide range of stuff. You wouldn't believe all the jewelery!

Not that I could tell, but you never know. Here is a larger size image for a better look:

If it is coated, it looks like it was done really well.

I like the looks of that! Checking ebay, it looks like it was a 2-ornament set. Neat.

I wasn't aware they sold ornaments until I picked up one from the 90s from a member of my local coin club. I'd say that held up pretty well in those conditions!
