I'll never understand the attraction for the '36 bars.
I'm not a collector of 10cents so I don't own one of these.
However I do have a few '36 bar quarters and a '36 dot/bar.
I also have about ten bar quarters of other years including two Vickies.
It's just a die crack.
Why are the '36s worth such a premium while the others attract no attention or premium whatsoever?
It's not a matter of supply and demand, what drives this phenomenon?
Are collectors sheeple, willing to jump at anything trendy and then try to sustain the delusion so that they can recoup their investment?

DBM...the answer is very simple...and it's not what you concluded.

it's purely the association to the "highly" valued 1936 dot quarter.

That's why the 1872 25c "A/V" is very expensive while the 1880 25c A/Vs are mostly ignored...

it's the association to the highly valued 1872 50c A/V....while the 1880 does not benefit from any such association...

BUT...once the 1872 25c A/V becomes as famous as the 1872 50c A/V...then the 1880 25c A/V will rise in value accordingly...

it's just human psychology...

notice that the rational explanation "it's just a die crack" has no bearing on reality...

Nice tough variety..but what would cause the toning to be so splotchy..It's very distracting, and a negative to me.

..but the variety is so sought after..

Splotchy toning on silver usually speaks to me as a coin that has experience a history of poor dipping practices.... or it can mean it spent some time in a humid environment, the toning zones can grow radially...

Thanks for making me pull out my 1936 again. I forgot there is a bar variety. You don't know how many hours I spent as a kid looking at this coin through a magnifying glass, trying to make a dot appear. And no bar either, as it turns out.
