Hello, Hi found a 971 gold medal, uncirculated. It is written on one side "SIMON BOLIVAR 1783-1830" with his face pointing a bit on his right side. On the other face of the coin it is written "EL LIBERTADOR" with Simon Bolivar riding a horse. The medal weights around 8 gr. and is stamp saying is 917 gold plus a mark next to it on an hexagon were is written inside 29 B. I'm not on numismatics so I don't have proper equipment, therefore I couldn't see clear what is written there clearly. Think is 29 B, but could be also 29 13. By this, I don't know if I'm doing right, I'm trying to determinate the year of production and country. Because of this I think could be 29 (some year) and B from Bolivia. I tried to research online but didn't found this coin, looked for many hours trough online catalogues, reverse image search,...and just found something close to it on style, but is a coin (not medal) and is silver: http://www.ebay.com/F-/321195547427Some photos: Some help would be appreciated to determine if it is a rare medal, how much of it has minted, country of production, estimated value,...to collect as much information as I can. Then I can maybe try to sell it. Thanks in advance. Nice forum by the way, Cheers! *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

@tyler84, first welcome to CCF.
Second, while this isn't really my area of interest, I can tell you that the 917 means that this is 22K gold. I'm reasonably sure that the hexagon with the 23B or whatever inside is a hallmark from the company that made this medal. You do not have a coin here as there is no denomination. Obviously, the medal was made to commemorate Simon Bolivar's life. It doesn't look all that old to me--I'm quite sure that it is much more recent than 1830 AD. Without knowing any more, I'd guess that there may not be much more of a premium over the bullion content, but would love to hear what others here say.

@Spence thanks for reply, yes I forgot to say that I checked online and found that 917 means 22k gold. About hallmark I couldn't find that 23B anywhere, I already researched about that. For my research I found that this medal was made on South America (Panama, Venezuela or Bolivia) but also could e made on Europe. Let's see if some one could give more clues about taht 23B.

Tyler, Neither is it my area but expanding your pix (good ones, BTW) the hallmark has the appearance of a star or possibly a crown instead of numbers/letters. It is a bit indistinct. Maybe this may help in identifying maker? I love a good mystery, be waiting to find out. Please let us know if you do.

@Crazyb0 great thanks for point that out, I made from a lent on an old cd reader a magnifier and also it looks like to me that hallmark is a symbol and not numbers. To me is an exciting mystery as well!I'll post as much as I know here.

Cannot find this halmark anywhere online, that is what I have for checking. I still see 23b not any sign but it could be. Any clues or ideas to identify this medal would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi all, Hi have more medals to show you about the same collection. Maybe it helps the identify them. On here I still cannot see clear the hallmark. But I still researching online and I found similar medal with some information in Spanish: http://www.artsvalua.com/historico/...de-ley-.htmlIt says that the similar medal was made by "Casa de Moneda de Mexico" Note that these medals are smaller than Simon Bolivar one. What you think about it? Any clues would be much appreciated!

this might get more replies in the world coins and commemoratives forum. in your newest pictures #2 and #5 depict bullfighters possibly part of a set. You might also contact Don Bailey http://donbailey-mexico.com/ and see if he has seen any of these before, worth a try anyway. -MV
