US Mint - The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for product options containing 2017 Native American $1 Coins beginning on January 25 at noon Eastern Time (ET).

The 2017 coin honors Sequoyah of the Cherokee Nation, creator of the Cherokee language. The reverse (tails) design features a profiled likeness of Sequoyah writing "Sequoyah from Cherokee Nation" in syllabary along the border of the design. Inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "$1" and "Sequoyah" written in English in the field of the design.

The obverse (heads side) design retains the central figure of the "Sacagawea" design first produced in 2000 with the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
Product options and their prices are as follows:

25-Coin P Roll $32.95
25-Coin D Roll $32.95
250-Coin P Box $275.95
250-Coin D Box $275.95
100-Coin P Bag $111.95
100-Coin D Bag $111.95

I wonder how much cheaper the mint sets will be now that there will only be one dollar coin in it? Always thought those sets were getting to big anyways.

Possibly the drop in cost due to having one less dollar coin will be offset by "cost increases" and the price will stay the same. Maybe even go up. Not saying it will, but I do see it as a possibility. Did the mint sets go down two dollars in price last year with one less Presidential dollar?

No, the price only went down one dollar. The mint sets are still worth it though given that the condition of the coins typically better than what you can get from rolls.

I'm pretty pumped about this coin. Our local high school is named after Sequoyah.

I truly believe that I'd collect these if the date and MM were on the obverse like they originally were. The edge lettering kills it for me.

Does one mint or the other generally produce better looking (fewer spots, fewer dings, sharper strikes, etc.) small dollars than the other? My son is going to sell some of these at his school since we live in Cherokee County and the high school he'll be attending is Sequoyah High School. He wants them to look nice as he'll be putting them in air tites.

If the circulating ATB Quarter sets are any indication, the Denver mint coins should look better.
