I think they must have had a new polisher guy at the mint. I bet when they saw what he did to their die he was given other duties away from the dies.

What am I missing? I don't see any over polishing, but you may have a die clash on the reverse and the obverse looks a bit MAD.

I see a polishing job that went pretty well, actually. They were probably just trying to remove a small die clash and knocked a piece of the Y off. There's a nice die clash of Lincoln's chin in the 7,8, and 9 Memorial bays, however!

Okay, so all those lines in the memorial are from them polishing away a clash - I can see that on the left side but right side still looks clashed.

I think this post is going to be one of those " I am going to hate myself in the morning" situations for not seeing what you are seeing.

Note the obverse. The letters on LIBERTY look thinned in size. So the dies was already polished from a previous clash. So another clash did happen or the polishing was done pretty strong on the reverse. That these happen during the life of a die sometimes more than once during it short lifespan.

Its been my past experience the ones that mess up on the shop floor are the ones that often get promoted to the corporate office. Not saying the mint operates the same.

Looks like these clashed dies needed a good work over here. Thanks, Doug.
