ive done some coin hunting a few years back and did pretty good on halves. I'm pretty well educated on how to get the coins where to dump them and how to look for the silver. last I went through an old jar and found one 1964 quarter and I might have a posible "in god we rust" kansas State Quarter, the T is there but its really less visible than the rest. and looked on ebay and some of the pictures I see resemble the same thing I got.the is there but its faded. when I find my camra ill have pictures of every good find. plus this kansas quarter I need an opinion on it. but anyway what other quarters should I look for. dimes nickels and even pennys. I need dates and what to look for. I look through a bunch of dimes last night looking for silver and the 1996 (W) I guess its woth 15$. I'm going out today and buying some halves I'm trying to get my silver collection up a little bit. but I wanna know what to look for in the other coinage also. this forum is great I spent hours on here yesterday :) happy hunting everyone

In general, here are some guidelines for coins to look for, in addition to the silver, impaired proof coins, and errors of course: ALL denominations: Any 2009 dated coin. With a few exceptions, almost all are low mintage. The 2009-P nickel is the hardest of these coins to find followed by the 2009-P North Mariana Islands quarter. Halves: 2002-present coins (Not intended for circulation), 1987 and 1987-D (only made in mint sets but they are known to find their way into circulation), 1982-P missing FG, 1974-D doubled motto error Quarters: ALL 2010-2012 dated coins except for 2011-P&D Chickasaw and 2012-D Hawaii and 2012-P&D Denali, 2004-D Wisconsin quarter with extra leaves. Dimes: 1982 missing the P mintmark Nickels: ALL coins dated prior to 1960 Cents: ALL coins dated prior to 1959, 1960 and 1960-D Small Date, 1970-S small date, 1972 double die obverse, 1983 double die reverse, 1984 doubled ear, 1992 and 1992-D Narrow AM coins, 1995 double die obverse, 1998, 1999, and 2000 Wide AM coins.

why do people keep nickels 1958 and pre In general, it's because they're worth more than face value... that said, some dates are very common such as 1940, 1941, 1946, 1954-D, 1956-D, 1957-D, 1958-D, and 1959-D... With those eight dates, it's safe just to save the really nice ones. Some dates are very scarce including the 1938-D, 1938-S, 1939-D, 1939-S, 1950-D, and 1955. Others such as 1938, 1942-D, 1949-S, 1950, 1951-S and 1958 are also low mintage issues worth a good premium... and of course there are the War Nickels which were made from 1942-1945 and have 35% silver in them...

Quote: why are all coins from 1999 worth keeping? I think you meant to say 2009... it's because almost all denominations produced very low mintages compared to normal that year. Some coins, such as the 2009-P nickel are next to impossible to find unless you search a lot of boxes.

Quote: whats "wams" stand for? "Wams" stands for Wide AMs... as in the Wide AM (in AMERICA) coins from 1998 through 2000 minted at Philadelphia.

Here's a more detailed list of the Kennedy halves that I made when I first started out. 1964 - 90% silver 1965-1970 40% silver Proofs, error coins, Magician's coins1971D, 1972, 1973D, 1974D, 1977D - DDO1972D, 1982P - no FG 1987, 2002-present NIFC I'd just google whatever denomination you're currently hunting and read as many sources as you can verify. Threads on here and other CRH forums are useful, but not everything is always listed. If anyone else has JFK years to look for, let me know so I can add em to my list! :)

Yes! That's the list I worked off of! I omitted silver errors in my personal list because I pull those to keep anyway, and had no imminent plans to sell them.

Another one for you, SilverFranklin. ANACS has listed a 1973 DDR, which I can't seem to find a picture of. I wasn't aware any doubled die reverses existed in the series.
