Here is my newest pickup, a Flowing Hair Half Dollar for my type set.

Some-Questions-On-My-Flowing-Hair-Half-Dollar

It is not in the best of shape, but it was what I could afford, and I think I got a decent deal on it. With that being said I would like some opinions on its authenticity. I took a risk going after an uncertified example, but it looked fine to me, and I can return it. My second question has to do with the date. I bought it as a 1795 example, which I expect it is since those are much more common than their 1794 counterparts. However as the date seems to be completely worn off is there any chance it could possibly be a 1794? I am sure there are certain diagnostics or Overton varieties that would be able to differentiate its date, but I do not have this knowledge. I welcome all input and opinions!

It appears to be an O-112 1795/1795. Note the position of star 2 and 15, and the remnants of the die crack above the head.

How much did you pay? Worth sending in to ANACS I say.

Congrats on the pick-up! Despite the grade you can still see a lot of the details. Looks like it was filled or plugged on the reverse. There's no telling which of our forefathers handled that coin.
Rest in Peace

Congratulations.

Thanks for all the comments, I ended up paying $280 for it which I think is not too bad. I think I will end up sending it to ANACS once I find some other coins I would like to submit as well. While it is not problem-free, I would much rather have a damaged example with plenty of detail then a completely wiped planchet for the price.

Nice pickup. Not sure it's worth spending money on for grading since it speaks for itself, but that's up to you.

With Chinese making just about anything these days, usually in the circulated grades, cerification is not a totally off the wall concept.
