Hi everyone,
First time posting here in the paper money forum.

Went to the bank to get Pennies for my son to CRH, and the teller asked if he wanted old bills. They saved these for him:

Not the greatest shape, but for face value, a fun find! The question I have, is the Star Note of any extra value beyond just being a Silver Certificate?

Thanks!

Not much if any but that's the one of the four that I would keep. What is going on with the bottom note, left bottom corner?

Hi John1, the bottom one was torn, and is folded in on itself. I didn't notice it until you pointed it out :)

So it's folded in at the bottom on the diagonal, and then a second time slightly above going right up to the top?

Premium on the star in this condition is virtually nothing. Keep it only as a souvenir.
Rest in Peace

Now, see what ya get from "sweet-talkin'" the tellers, they save goodies for you! Now if you don't want those extra...I'll give you a buck apiece for 'em!
Rest in Peace

Very nice teller!

Personally, I think they are all keepers. Just because they don't have any premium value doesn't mean that they can't be the beginning of a collection. You can't beat the price and if you upgrade, you can always let them go to a new collector at face value.

While they may have no real premium, just try to buy one at an antique store or flea market. Those guys sure seem to think so. (And yes, I know there's cost of business markups in those situations.) You did just fine getting these at face.

Great teller experience and very cool that they'd set those aside for you and your son.

It never hurts to ask what the tellers may have. My credit union usually isn't busy, & when I ask , sometimes they all check to see what they have. Last time I got a $2 bill, the teller said she was hoping she could get rid of it.

My LCD would pay $1.10 each for the non stars, and maybe $1.25 for the star.

@Coinfrog, here is another pic of the bill in question. It was torn about 3/4 of the way down and folded vertically in on itself, and then diagonally on the corner. I see now why that one drew attention.

My son loves to show off the coins he finds to the tellers, and I think they enjoy it too. We maybe go once or twice a month. It was very nice of them to hold these bills for him, as we don't come around too often. Thanks for the feedback!

Nice finds! Too bad we can't exchange silver certificates for silver anymore... It would be very interesting if we could still exchange silver certificates for silver. Oh the troubles of inflation. I have a few $1 silver certificates in my coin collection as well.
