I ordered 4 boxes of pennies from my bank and they all turned out to be brand new 2016-D. I opened 4 rolls and several of them have divot type cuts in various places. Since they are uncirculated, are these problems from the planchets? I'm new to this so I appreciate the help.
Slamnbass, the tellers were nice and told me I didn't have to take them but I did. I have ordered a good many boxes in the last 6 months and these were the first new ones I've gotten. I threw them to the side and will give to the grand kids one day. Thanks.
Next time you go to the bank ask for customer wraps. When you're done with them, turn the bad ones back in at another bank. That way, the first bank stays happy and you never get the rejects back.
cwb, I had seen where some folks had paid double for these boxes, one reason I decided to keep them.
CoinMasters, after I go through them, I put them in the coin counting machine at the bank and one day a week, Loomis pick those bags up and bring in my new orders. I usually get $100/week and that is where I found the 1969S DDO from one of the Loomis rolls. Loomis is a couple of hours from here so I don't think there is much chance of getting the same coins back.
The tellers at my bank are great, one even emails me if someone brings something in she thinks is interesting or if the bag in the machine gets full, to see if I want it. She always gives me the pennies that look like 'chocolate pudding' if I have to do a transaction!
A couple times I have gotten quarter bags from the machine but only found one silver one.
An interesting series: It will show you how the coins are made, but note how they are handled? It explains why we get coins like this. The nicest coins are few... Modern Miracles Money on youtube Part one:
coop, thanks for the link. After watching the way the coins are handled, I can see why there is damage to so many of them. I watched the rest of the series also, some interesting stuff. Thanks again.
T-BOP, I could not believe all the coins I unwrapped that had scars on them but after watching the video, I am not surprised at all. Also, like you said, I can see why the higher graded coins are so desirable. Have a great day.
If you order mint sets to get better coins, save your money. They use the same coins that go into rolls. They look just as bad as what you find in rolls.
I just suggested that because you said you ended up with all 2016 coins. I see you've got a system now, cool. I wish my bank had a coin counting machine. It would also be nice to get coins in bags, but no banks near me offer that. Oh well.
