Got this in change recently. Definitely harshly
cleaned ,I'm curious about the end result and
how did the coin keep the detail? The 2 dark pic's
are intentional to hi-lite the scoring on the coin

a guess is that it was cleaned and dipped

the third picture appears to show scratch marks in the fields from it being buffed/cleaned
the fourth image appears to show a scratch between 2 & 3 o'clock that is possible coin roller damage

Looks like someone "antiqued" it with special chemicals that you use for putting an antique finish on metal.

The first looks like an incomplete planchet or clipped planchet.

Nice clip!

Someone did experiments on the other one. The results are quite interesting, though I don't think the harsh cleaning would have been a necessary step in the process.

Unless maybe it was cooked in a fire?

I've been doing expirements with 100% nickel quarters, but I didn't do it to that one.

I've been trying to blacken them with vinegar, salt, and corroded copper.

It's worked one time, got a 1979 Canadian nickel solid black. Never worked again :/

I like the antiquing angle . Makes sense.
But how was original finish removed ? Tenacity
and patience?
@ mike9999999 : Did you get the finish off or blacken it?
and just once That is interesting .
Sounds like we need Merlin,Tesla or there ilk.

And got the clip in change awhile back
