This one sits in a PCGS plastic cage. It has been offered to me for $800. Thoughts on grade, condition and fair market value. I have not seen the coin in hand but there are bothersome lines on the eagle's shield. Seller doesn't know what might have caused it, but certainly detracts from its appeal.

Lines on the shield are from obverse die clash.

Technically I'd give it a 40, but I wouldn't be surprised with a PCGS 45.

Absolutely positively cleaned.

Another very common date. For $800 it had better be graded AU-55. If that's the case I would pass due to the skid marks on the shied. You can do better on that year.

So hard to find a problem free Seated dollar. Seems like all the nice ones are sitting in collector's hands and only junky ones are for sale.

Having said that, folks here in general, and moxking in particular have driven me to be greatly more patient than I have ever been and hold out for quality. Thank you to you all!

I'd recommend browsing the inventory of dealers that specialize in Seated coinage for a couple of reasons

They are likely to have multiple examples for sale in a variety of grades

Less chance of buying a fake or a fake coin in a fake slab.

Any suggestions about a knowledgeable Seated dollar specialist with deep inventory?

I feel almost embarassed to approach someone like that for the cheapest, most common date, highest grade SLD under $1k for a type set. I feel like he's gonna slap me for suggesting anything less than R9.

Dick Osburn has quite a few Seated dollars in inventory.
He is a very reputable dealer.

Not a fan of the coin in the opening post: screams unoriginal/cleaned surfaces.

You might want to check out Don Rinkor coins. He is one of the top dealers for DMLP Morgan's, but always has Trade and Seated dollars for sale. He will work with you on price. Check out his web site at rinkorrarecoins.com. He mainly deals in high end coins, but he will have some in your price range.
