I don't know where to post this but I wanted to warn the community about a big problem I ran into on ebay. I purchased a roll of coins on the site. I didn't hear anything for several days and then I got an email that said the package was shipped. I checked tracking and to my horror it showed it was delivered at 10:30 AM on that same day! For one my mail doesn't run that early and two I never got it. I called the PO and they told me it was addressed and delivered to a completely different street in my same city! Tracking just showed it was delivered in my city (it doesn't show the address). I tried contacting the seller multiple times and they wouldn't reply so I opened an ebay case. By this point tracking showed "returned to sender addressee does not match the address". The person who got this fake package (more on that later) gave it back to the mailman because it wasn't theirs. I opened a ebay case thinking I would be covered. Even though tracking showed it was returned to sender, the status before that showed "delivered" in my city. ebay ruled against me in my case and closed it! I called twice and they kept saying "we can't see the exact address but it showed delivered in your city so you must have got it and mailed it back." I kept telling them it was a different address and they kept saying "all we know is it was delivered to your city so you must have got it, we ruled in favor of the seller". I got in touch with my post office and they told me they couldn't provide me anything in writing to show the wrong address was on the package. I finally got them to provide me their internal tracking that showed the address was completely different on the package. To make it even more shady, there was no return info on the package and it showed as 1 Oz. The item I purchased would have been at least 8 oz so the seller sent an empty package to a different address in my city so that tracking would show delivered. I called ebay for a 3rd time with my internal tracking and they finally admitted I got ripped off and gave me a refund. I'm still very upset and my online shopping will be very limited going forward. I wanted to warn others about this. I've been on ebay for over 15 years and never had such a disaster. Sorry for the long post but I wanted other members to know about this so they can take the right steps if it happens to them. Stay safe out there.. thanks.

They aren't getting better they're getting worse. They're horrible protecting the seller. I'm out over $300 cause the post office lost my package with 2 CC Morgan's in it. I did everything right on my end and I got shafted. Normally they're pretty good with buyers but I've been hearing reports lately from other people. I haven't sold any coins on there since my debocle and I refuse to do so. Plus the cherry on top they charged me the final value fees which was $40 more. I don't bother calling customer service since they're not even actual people in America, they're probably in Asia or India. I hope Amazon can get more into coins cause they'd probably beat ebay in coins if they tried.

Coins are uninsurable when sold and shipped through ebay checkout. I guess you would have to have the seller bring the package to the PO to have it insured?

Bad news for sure this is horrible, people are pathetic, especially the ones that put more time and energy into shafting hard working people out of their money than they do into getting an honest job and making an honest living!

The scammers get more creative every time the sun comes up.
I always wondered what would happen IF a package was addressed and delivered to someone else in the same zipcode as the legitimate Buyer.
Looks like it becomes a nightmare of hoop jumping to get resolved.

That would be my question, too. What did the seller say or do through all of this?

As I mentioned the seller would not reply and the detailed usps tracking shows no origin address. The only "reply" I got was when I opened a dispute they added the same tracking with no comment. They paid by "other pay method" aka cash at a self service kiosk. Also as I mentioned the street was completely wrong so it was no honest mistake. If I lived on 123 Main Street, they sent it to 222 second street. Lastly the weight was 1 oz so there was likely nothing in the fake package. Due to all those reasons I'm positive it was a scam. They had no other feedback which should have been a red flag (although I've never had an issue with a new seller before).

I wouldn't say you had a bad online ebay experience... I would say you had a bad experience with USPS. If they can deliver to the wrong address they can also screw up on the weights. Perhaps someone from the PO emptied the package and it was delivered to the wrong address to cover their tracks? I've sold over 2500 items on ebay, and bought hundreds more. I can count the number of negative issues I've had on one hand, and everyone of them was handled pretty well.

When buying from a questionable "no feed back" seller you might want to use a credit card through Paypal. This way if anything goes wrong you can call your credit card for help. Then call Paypal and perhaps ebay. Buying with a credit card should give you more protection.

Can you reveal the sellers ID. And was it for U.S. coins or World coins ?

Quote:Coins are uninsurable when sold and shipped through ebay checkout. I haven't sold anything on ebay lately but when I did I always used the available shipping software provided by ebay (powered by Pitney Bowes!) which allowed me to purchase insurance for my sold coins. The software created a shipping label with barcode and tracking info; seemed very convenient to me. It wouldn't let you insure for more than the final auction price although you could insure for less. I never had to file a loss claim so I don't know if they would have actually paid up.
