One of the most enjoyable aspects of coin collecting for me is finding or buying a coin from the other side of the world and having a piece of that world in my hands. It also pushes me to investigate into the history of that coin, what its made of, what economic crisis or booms occurred during that time, etc.
So here is the game: Dig deep into your collection of coins and find a coin that you think is the "farthest" coin. The coin can be from any country in the world, but you must own it.
Comment back with this information: - A picture of the coin - The mint/village/state/etc and year that your "farthest" coin was made - Your location (general or exact) - The distance from your house to that location in both miles and kilometers. Use Google Maps to measure the distance as a standard. It will automatically choose the shortest distance so you don't measure to the west and score a billion miles for your neighbors house. :) - (Optional) Tell us the story about how you got it and any history about that time and its impact on the coin; like Notegeld for example. - War tokens and provisional gov't coins are good to go!
Let's do this until 0001 GMT on 11 February. I hope to see some really cool stuff! Edited by Lembafc 01/30/2017 09:49 am

For many of in the eastern US, the antipode is somewhere in the Indian ocean southwest of Perth Australia. This means that the Perth Mint would be the most distant mint from us.

Gonna be hard to beat triggersmob. The furthest from me, near to CanadianNumismatist in Vancouver, is South Africa about 16,950 kilometers away. I have some coins from there but it may take me a while to find them for pics.

My farthest coin is from Gibraltar. From Yongsan, Seoul, South Korea it is just shy of 10,500km at 10,468 km or 6,504 miles. It is the 1967 One Crown coin from Gibraltar and I picked it up in a lot of European coins during a TDY to Germany. I found a coin shop in Nuremburg and picked up a huge lot. This was one of them :) If only I had a coin from Uruguay or Argentina :)
