Came across this coin and was wanting to know if anyone can tell me what the stamped symbol on this coin is? Does it make it rare and add value or just a normal type coin for this date? I have circled and arrowed the mark in question. All replies are appreciated. Thank you!

@amnight, that looks like a "chop mark", a countermark added to a coin by a merchant or bank who was certifying that this coin was of good silver. Here is one of the best CCF threads on this subject:

I'd have to dig out my copy of Hartill. I agree that it is a chopmark, but there was one particular chop mark from a certain clan that would make a coin very valuable. Otherwise, these coins were made from very high purity silver (95+% IIRC) and thus popular with foreign merchants.

Old topic but just today I bought a Tempo Era Ichi Bu. So I researched it.

Squire Wilson points you to a knowledgeable source, Lianna Spurrier.

But you will learn more quickly if you visit her web site at
https://rectanglecoins.com
and view her description of "Silver Set". Look for the Shonai coin.

Finn235 thus refers to the Shonai clan. As the time went by the silver content in these coins dropped and the currency was basically devalued. The Shonai clan added new chop mark(s) to mark the coins they knew had higher silver content. One of the chop marks looks a lot like the validation stamp you see on all ichibu (top center of your first image). The other mark looks like an upside down Y sticking half way out the top of a square with a nearly total opening on its bottom. Neither mark looks like yours.
