Here is the answer that I was looking for:
As many of us know, the Barber designed coins were thus named for their designer Mr. Charles E. Barber. But Barber also was the designer of the HAWAII half dollar in 1883 making it "a Barber half dollar" just as much as the US version of said coin.
I just purchased my first Hawaiian half dollar.
