I got a half dollar from my bank today it sounded weird when I dropped on my table. I came to realize that the face was cut out perfectly and the back side was milled out and there was a mexican peso in the millde. I'm kind of confused do you think it was from a smuggler and is the mexican coun significant in any way *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I believe those are magic coins. It's unusual to find one with both halves. Pretty cool

Awesome! Sounds like a labor of love or a souvenir, not smuggling. The half dollar is likely fake, not milled.

It's a spy coin. You can buy them on ebay and a lot of other places. Here are some to look at. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MicroSD-Hid...national-andJust look up 'spy coin' and you'll see that there are a lot out there. They are novelty pieces. Since you got yours for only fifty cents -- you did pretty good!

Yes it is part of a trick that goes along with some kind of story on changing from US to Mexican. There are a number of different ones from the penny to dime to ones that use silver dollars. they go for around $20.00

I was wondering if you still had the coin and if so would you be willing to sell it?
