Not quite as nice as the 1881-S bought at the same time and posted just a bit earlier, but way too high a grade not to also take it at the price of an ordinary BU Morgan. Another very common date, of course, but I think with a virtually mark free face, it ought to make 65 without breathing hard.

All those dark spots don't hurt the grade?

That will not make a 65. I had a even nicer coin, and it barely squeezed past. And I paid only $35 for my Morgan, so a 64 wouldn't have hurt too bad.

The carbon spotting, scratched reverse (eagle's breast), and overall appearance of the coin suggest it would not holder above MS64.

Liberties face jaw and neck have a very granular look that is a bit concerning.

Between MS64 & 65, there are over 35,000 of these certified. Those cigarette burns will lower the grade...lucky if you get MS64.

The carbon spots takes away eye appeal for sure, I think it's a 64

Agree with 64. The spots keep it from 65, and once again the X factor of luster plays greatly into this as well.
