Found my first war time nickel coin roll hunting today I got 25 in Penny's and 20 in nickels. Went to a different bank today that don't sell coins to people unless they have an account didn't do well on the pennys. Out of 10 rolls I pulled this though. So tomorrow I'm going to get 60 in nickels and see what happens

Don't forget to look for the 5 key dates! Also look for lower mintage coins and what I cal HTF, hard-to-finds, 55p,58p,46s,48s. If you're looking to fill a few albums, those, at least to me, seem hardest to find from box/roll hunts. Another one of the more recent around here (central MO) is the 2009p, only found 4 out of 27,800 searched, go figure? Did you know there's more silver in a dollars worth of silver nickels than a buck's worth of 90% silver?

Congrats! It's a great feeling. Nickels are great to CRH. Probably the best to me right after half dollars

Quote: Did you know there's more silver in a dollars worth of silver nickels than a buck's worth of 90% silver? I believed it but had to look it up anyway for my own sake. $1 worth of War Nickels = About $20 silver melt currently One Morgan dollar = under $14 Fun fact Crazyb0!

Congrats! I pull a War Nickel around every 60 rolls of nickels (not including that hoard I found last week)... With nickels, the key is volume... Through about 450,000 coins searched, I have found at least two examples of every pre-1960 date other than 1939-D (1) and 1950-D (0)... Quote: Another one of the more recent around here (central MO) is the 2009p, only found 4 out of 27,800 searched, go figure? Crazyb0, as others can attest, the 2009-P is MUCH harder to find than a War Nickel... takes me on average about 375 rolls to find one. I have found only about 30 in 450,000 coins searched... so you're actually finding them about twice as frequently as me.

I knew that 2009's were scarce but paid no attention because they weren't included in my album/search timeline! I guess this means I have to re-search a couple thousand.

And spruett001, the 2009-Ds are also highly collectible. Though not nearly as hard to find as the 2009-Ps they do command about 5x face even in circulated grades.

John77 so the 2009 d or p is worth 5x face value? And what would the other one be worth ?

Hummmm...maybe I need to snatch the 2009P & 2009D I just added to a couple bags of pre 1960 nickels I was going to consign at auction! thanks for the chart John77, that's nice to know. BTW, of the 4 2009P's, one is in my collection, 2 are in my grandkids, and fourth is the one above!

You're welcome, Crazyb0!
I'm working on an accurate pricing sheet for all modern coins. Have started with the Jeffersons since the prices on them seem to be the most inaccurate of any series in the regularly published charts.

nfine, he's hunting nickels and just getting started. On another thread he asked us what to look for. http://goccf.com/t/278386So this isn't "hijacking"... unless you don't want to help him know what to look for. Maybe if we changed the topic on this thread to halves or cents, I'd agree with you.
