Last week I found out my 1832 Argentina 4 soles coin was probably a forgery. Today I received my 1815 Argentina 8 reales coin back from PCGS. I had joined their collector club and had sent in my 8 reales as one of my "free" grade submissions. I was a bit concerned that PCGS would find some problem with this coin, so I was quite relieved when I opened the package:

So, this week is off to a much better start!

Wow! There can't be many of those coins in that condition around. Congratulations!

So what's the story, are you working on an Argentinian type set? If so you are certainly off to a great start with that coin and the 2 soles you posted in another thread.

Beautiful coin, Jaobler. Where do you find a coin like that? I find the obverse very attractive.

Thanks folks for the nice comments.

My wife is from Argentina and I have gradually developed an interest in the early coinage from that country. I bought this one in 2006 from dealer Bernardo Kurchan who has a shop on Viamonte in Buenos Aires. He had several 1813 and 1815 8 reales coins in stock and this one was by far the nicest. The price was about $600.

As an aside, I've very pleased to have this coin slabbed by PCGS. I know many forum members prefer to keep their coins "raw." I just don't have great confidence in my ability to detect a counterfeit or a real coin with subtle "problems". (If there is a bullet hole through a coin, I can usually detect that! ). Slabs of course have their limitations, but I value the measure of security that they do provide, at least when it comes to more expensive coins. Just my opinion!
