This is a 1855-O, which had a mintage 4.5X larger than the 1855, so it is more common. VF20. Worth about $75. Nice example.

Please correct title to reflect mintmark.

VF20 Details. the 'X' engraved on the obverse and other graffiti that has toned over at star 11 & 12 will be considered PMD. there are also a couple indicators for a cleaning. the clean spot at star 4 & 5 as well as what appears to be some type of liquid was used on the reverse and you can see the residual under the 'S' in states to the eagle wing

Thanks for your analysis. I didn't think much of the little marks but now that spot seems very obvious. I liked the patina and @ $65 didn't seem like a bad deal. But thank you for your help and everyone else's analysis.

I hadnt noticed the graffiti until panzaldi pointed it out. It is there but it isn't prominent. It makes the toning a little more suspect as it doesn't look altogether natural, but the coin is still attractive. I would say it is market acceptable as is. I have seen much worse in PCGS holders.

With respect to panzaldi's comments, I do not see clear evidence of graffiti, but rather just a suggestion of it, which may not be accurate. The lightened area at stars 4 and 5 could be the result of several things.

Whatever the ancient truth, I find this fully market acceptable.

I don't view this as a "no problem" coin. The highest features of the design have been rubbed with something. It is not natural to have a Ms. Liberty with bright silvery legs and other parts and gray toned fields. There also appears to be graffiti in the right obverse field. You can do better than this, Steeler72, although I'll grant you that finding no problem, lightly circulated 19th century coins is harder than it used to be.
