Khasil, it sure looks like a 1997P-1DO-001 as listed on http://www.coppercoins.com. you need to "attribute" it according to the markers as listed on the page for that one. The description say there doubling on ear top by curls as well but I think your coin is too worn there and also there are others points that may indicate if this is it. Your grade may only be a VF/EF @$10-15.00, but...check it out for a side by side compare on pix.

That is some flattening on the lobe. It is was a doubled die, it would have been raised and not incuse.

But what I look for on these is the line on the ear that reminds me of the SE Arizona border:

than you for your response. I kind of was not sure if it's dd, because I found one before, better condition. I displayed the whole coin and it looks not so bad when you see the whole coin. thanks again. thanks.

I may not explain this perfectly but another thing I always look for is notice on your coin at the top of where the damage is it comes to a V a definite start point where the damage took place and on the 001 doubled ear there is no V or start point so to speak the doubling is just there and the line that seperates it just fades near the top of the doubling

I first saw this type of damage on a couple 1984 LMCs when I first started looking for varieties. Folks here helped me to differentiate between MD and DD. Since then, I see this type of damage fairly often, especially for a few dates, but especially 1984. It might be that this is the highest point of the relief so when the tool wobbles at the top, it's prone to create damage in that area (just a theory).

thank you all, I did not like this one and I was 99% sure it was not, but I do not want to offend anyone on the board and I am always thankful for all replys, but I also always wait for big boys to come and say the final word. thanks.
