The idea of business strike "S" minted quarters is a pretty good idea. Yes I know these aren't issued for circulation but I am referring to the strike here. Anyways I think if this were to be implemented it should have been at the beginning of the ATB program, not after the fact.

I guess one could call these NCLT and they are not included in the annual mint and proof sets. What is odd though is that the prez and N/A dollars are also NCLT (part of the time anyways) but they ARE included in those annual sets just the same.

IMO, these NCLT coins should be released in their own annual set. As far as I am concerned the current annual sets are just too darn big and bloated.

I don't personally like the ATB Quarters, and gave up on collecting them in their second year. I do however keep my eyes open for any impaired proofs or business strike S quarters. Seems to me that if they really want the public to collect these, they'd mint them from San Francisco and in somewhat equal numbers to P and D.

Rest in Peace

NCLT = Non-Circulating Legal Tender (it's in the glossary) http://www.coincommunity.com/dictio.../coins_n.asp
Don't worry, I didn't know either. I just knew the non-circulating part.

I just learned about the "S" business strikes a few weeks ago and was considering collecting a set. And now I learn that such a set wouldn't even be complete because they didn't make them for the first couple of years. It's a good thing I didn't start yet. What's the point of adding this new variety partway through the series?

It may have had something to do with the 75th anniversary of the San Francisco mint being celebrated in 2012.

However, it definitely would have been nice to have the S-business strikes for the whole series.

I cashed in my couple of sets of State Quarters at coin star and put together a silver proof set.

I started the ATB's but did the same thing and will just keep a silver proof set.

I would have started that S mint set and kept it...if they started it in the beginning.

I'm not even collecting the ATB series. I think it's just a lot of rubbish. Tired of these long multi-year programs.

I agree. I wish these started in 2010, not 2012 (reminds me of the satin finish debacle). I also wish they were included in the mint sets. Luckily they are readily available at coin shows from dealers who buy them by the bag.
