I got my roll of Effigy Mounds ATB Quarters yesterday. My first 2017 coins! Quality is on par with all the others in this series, which is to say poor. Lots of chatter and spotting. I also believe this is the least attractive design for the ATB Quarters so far. I took some time sorting through the 40 coins, and this was the best one of the bunch. I just thought some might be interested in pictures of the coin.

I would have thought the special S mint version would have been nicer. Sort of like the ones they used to make for mint sets.

Yes, I keep hoping that the next roll will have some gems... But that doesn't seem to be the case. I would guess, from my experience, that anything MS65 or better is pretty scarce. But maybe I just keep getting a bad roll...

I just showed this to my husband. He called them Christmas Cookies. I can enjoy them now.

The proof roll that I cracked yesterday was pretty good. I couldn't say if there'd be gems because I've had no interest in quarters. I bought these mostly because my wife's uncle was instrumental in research and setting up the place (archeologist).
The monument is relatively close to where we live now and there are effigy mounds all over the driftless area of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois. They pre-date all of the native tribes of this area by thousands of years and it's pretty amazing that they have survived all these years at all. However, regarding the coin, pretty much every other design that was considered was better than this one.

Thanks for posting the pic, gymcoachdon!
Unfortunately that looks like a nonsensical blur to me. I realize these are business strikes but regardless I'm not impressed with this design at all. I guess I'll have to wait and see what the proofs look like but I'm not optimistic.

I'm expecting a bank roll of these in the next few days. They were distributing them at Kerndt Brothers Bank branches in NE Iowa as part of the rollout celebration, and friends who still live there were kind enough to get me a roll. I personally like the design, but I guess because it reminds me of my youth, exploring all over the driftless area. Not sure what I'll end up doing with them, but I figured it might be years before they show up out west.

I am rather uninspired with this quarter as well. Maybe I will change my mind once I actually have one in my hands.
