My guess is that this is Machine Doubling from Die Deterioration; I'd love to be wrong however. What do others say? Thanks.

I believe your guess is correct. It is certainly not the '69-s DDO.

I barely even see the MD, just a bit on the date -- are you guys seeing it elsewhere?

Not to be pedantic, but Machine Doubling differs from Die Deterioration Doubling. MD occurs when the planchet shifts slightly during the strike, while Die Deterioration creates a faint doubled image on all coins struck with the deteriorated die.

It is MD, but not from Die Deterioration. Those are two different processes. The Die Deterioration is from a worn die. The MD is caused after the strike from die movment.
