I found these two 1979 D pennies whose mint marks look similar. Do you think these are RPM's? The notching on the lower left makes me wonder.

Bella57, hi. That's actually a die ding, knocked the corner off. For years it was thought to be RPM, but isn't. There are some 79D RPMs looking close but...really have to match w/ known examples!

Oh, and other attributing marks need to match

Actually it is not a die ding. It is from a damaged mint mark punch. Very common this year and found on several different dies. Until the punch is replaced, that punch will continue to make the mint mark look like that.

If it were a die ding. what would it look like. It would be incuse on the die and raised on the coins. The area in question is not raised.
