Bought a golf bag from a local thrift store and found this little jem in one of the pockets. I have a small coin collection but being a newbie, I think this is my best find. I took some pics so I could show comparison between the different color types. Is this something rare for a 1991?

to our family!

It's one of two things. Most likely it is electroplated with nickel or zinc. These are novelty/fake coins. It could be an unplated zinc planchet, these are not very common, they are mint errors. We'd need better flat on pix to really advise more.

Oh, it may be the optic distortion, is that "silver" coin larger than the others

Most likely, that coin was plated by a third party after it left the mint. Do you know its weight

That's fun thing to find. I, too, think it's a novelty item.
For one thing, it's in remarkably good shape for its age and having resided in a golf bag.

The only way to know for certain is to weigh it.

Keep it somewhere safe until you can weigh it.

I will have to take it to a local shop to get weighed. It seems to be identical to any other penny, just silver, maybe slightly lighter. It's fun to research this. Thanks for the help. I'll see if I can get better photos too, in better light.

I'm gonna have to get better lighting. I'm using fluorescent lighting and it's putting dirty color bands across the photos. This coin has no color what so every.

Since you found it in a golf bag it was probably acquired as a novelty item to be used as a ball marker.

Well, It was like ripping a very sticky band-aid off, painful and quick. I took it to a coin shop and as soon as he had it in his hand and looked, he handed it back as said "fake". . I said "how can you tell so quick". He said "I've seen A LOT of these and I know". I said OK, thank you. I'll use it as a ball marker....
