Hello, I am considering sending in this coin to PCGS which has a value of about $ 220 for a VG-7.

This coin is damaged and cleaned certainly not worth the grading costs.

Yes, damaged, cleaned, not worth grading. Probably G-04 (at the most) details grade (damaged, cleaned)

Assuming that your opinion is not that much different from the above valuation for this grade, here are the primary questions: #1 what % or $ amount would the presence of the 'clip' add or detract from the aforementioned $ 220 (see below), # 2 would it be worth it to send in this coin and pay extra for the variety attribution services and # 3 depending upon the real or perceived cleaning effect would it be severe enough for PCGS to warrant a details designation? In summary, in an attempt to structure the easiest format for organizing with some uniformity the expected multiple responses please try to use the following template when calculating the effects of each distinct contributing factor, where each viewer is likely to opine differently: i.e. Starting with $ 220 @ a VG-7 grade as the base/ground value to subsequently adjust with all or some of the following, factor in the appropriate issues with a: + or - dollar amount for the potential added value or annoying/disruptive devaluation effect w/r/t to the presence of the clip + or - dollar amount for an increase or decrease in grade compared to the VG-7, + or - dollar amount for the negligible or significant financial impact of cleaning or not to produce a GRAND TOTAL of .............? I always use this type thought process for all of my submissions to any TPG when making the final determination to justify PCGS grading charges, for example, coupled with the corresponding USPS registered mailing fees etc. Thanks for your opinions.

Sure looks more wear than clip, no matter what grading co. said. As others said, not worth it, you'd never get out what you have and would put into it. Your list value is too high, yea it's book price for g7. Yours may get that on reverse (doubt it)but obverse is straining for F2 at best. Use it as a hoe filler til get better.

A clip is slightly curved in ,looks like someone put this coin against a grind stone.

I also do not think that this coin is worth grading. In any event, here is how I would apply your questions.
1. A clip would perhaps add some value to this coin from your stated condition assumption. However, I don't think this is a clip. It is slightly convex like it was ground away - perhaps a kid sat and ground it on the sidewalk for an hour. If it was a clip, it would generally be concave with an arc of the same radius as a half dollar. With a clip this large, I would also expect to see the devices on the opposite edge to be very weak due to the Blakesley effect, though I don't see it. In summary, I think that the coin has severe post-mint damage and thus worth considerable less than $200 as it would receive a details grade due to damage.
2. I do not think it would receive a VG-7. Probably considerable lower and thus less than $200. Not worth sending it in, and especially not with a variety attribution.
3. I think it is cleaned and the value is thus further decreased. It looks severe enough that this would give it a details grade.
Sorry....

Quote: A clip is slightly curved in Not if it is a straight clip from the edge of the strip. I can't tell if this is a genuine clip or not.

I agree ... that for the state this coin is in, it would be impossible to determine if the clip was done at the mint or damaged after leaving the mint.
My opinion, it was damaged after leaving the mint.
This coin is a classic hole filler. A coin that is better than a empty hole.
