Also, older nickels, such as those made from 1942-1945. they are silver and if worn will be somewhat dark. Of course anything that does not look like today's money such as Mercury dimes, Buffalo nickels, etc. It is not likely you would see them, but it is certainly possible.

When I used to work as a cashier, one woman paid with a 1962 Washington quarter. I was ecstatic! I also received a 50% silver Canadian quarter. Those were the only silver coins I ever found. I was really nuts about it though; I would put any coin that even looked remotely white like silver in the extra change slot (that's supposed to be for halves or dollars).

I do remember getting a really nice looking George VI Canada penny, and several wheat cents. I gave a couple out as change (checked the dates first of course), trying to be the nice cashier, pointing out, "ohh this one's a Wheat penny," until I figured out that no one cared.

I don't even ever look at my own pocket change so I can be of no help here, just nothing that is in circulation thrills me at all so I get bored trying to look so I just skip that all together and let the next guy find what ever they can. I don't even like carrying it around with me, I always just dump it in anything I can find around the house to hold change. My ashtray in my truck is full and so is my console in my truck, every now and then I will take out a few cents to get a full dollar back from the store but thats about it

i on the other hand consistently roll search at work. I work as a cashier so I am around coins alot. What ill do is carefully open a roll, look, if I find something, I will replace it, if not, then everything goes back in the roll and back in the drawer.

I jar all my pocket change and scope it out when the jar's about a pint-ful. That's because I'm old, decrepit, and dont see well enough to look at coins without my microscope.

I always check my change. Every once in a while I find something to fill a hole in the Lincoln albums that I'm filling for the grandkids. I noticed my hubby doing it too.

Be sure to keep an eye out for any clipped coins that may pass through your register. Some of them are quite valuable.
