When my mom use to work as a toll collector for the state of New York she would come home with rolls of halve dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. She kept them in a dresser draw. Years later she moved out and I kept them for a bit. I could kick myself for turning them in for cash or putting some of the rolls into my savings account when I was a teenager. I wasn't into coins or keeping old coins like I am now. I'm willing to take a wild guess there was a lot of silver in those rolls of halves, quarters, dimes, and nickels. There might of been some Buffalo nickels and Indian cent pennies in the nickel and penny rolls.

I think I've always had an intrinsic interest in coins but no one in my family collected anything outside of junk. It was several years ago while counting down a till that I stumbled across a silver quarter (by the sound). That was the most minute spark, I think, that led me to joining this forum.

After that, I discovered a completely mistreated collection of my wife's late grandfather in the garage (previously in the shed). It was obvious that her parents had no interest other than what they recognized as valuable (big US silver coins). Lo and behold, I've rescued quite a few world silver coins and even more error coins.

I guess my point is: who knows how many things got overlooked when I was younger because I didn't have the knowledge to look for it? Despite that, I still found my way here by roundabout circumstances.

I hope you enjoy the forum. There are lots of devoted people here willing to share knowledge and insight. I'll contribute what I can, but I'm a newbie!
