After reading the thread about the 2018 Red Book, it got me thinking if I should update my current copy. I currently have the 2013 version (love the spiral binding!) but since most of my interests are 19th and early 20th century, am I missing out on a lot of content/info by using an almost 5 year old version?

How often do most collectors update their versions?

to CCF. Depends on what you use RB for. The prices for the coins are out of date almost as soon as the book gets released. It does have a lot of good info but that doesn't change much from year to year. If you want info on a specific area of coin collecting you may want to get a book focused on your series of coin.

I usually get a new one every 2-3 years. Put the old one(s) somewhere else (work, nightstand, etc.).

I collect modern coins so I get a new Red Book about every three to four years. The main reason I get a new edition is to update the Mintage figures in my collection record. I suppose I could use the US mint website to do this but I'm old and stuck in my ways. For someone that collects classics I think the book would stay valid for a very long time. Another added benefit is that after about ten years the market will catch up to the printed prices.

I get a new one every 4 or 5 years.
I think my next Red Book will be the Large Print version.

I get a new one every year, because my coin club gives them out for free as a reward for renewing your membership. I usually donate my old ones.

I don't anymore - everything is online that I need. I would trather spend the money on a coin.

I think the last one I have is about 10 years old. Prices have always been way wrong anyway. However, this is not a criticism. I understand their pricing was a function of only being able to publish once a year and there is no way to really predict the market.

I agree every 3 or 4 years or SOONER if your a modern coin collector . You would want to know up to date information on what the mint is producing . Just disregard most prices they print out. And yes ,save all old issues .They might have collector value in the future.
I still have my first Red Book 1963 issue price was $1.75 , It's now worth $10 in it's present condition .

I get one every 20 years whether I need another one or not. Back in the day when we might have actually used the prices, maybe more frequently. It's mainly a reference to look up things about coins. For example, is this 1970-S Lincoln Cent a small date or large date?
