Was offered this raw coin. Seller wants about MS60 retail. I think it grades higher than that at 62-63. Thoughts on grade and issues? Thanks. Nice original coin, but I'm in the AU58 camp on this one. Doesn't appear to have any luster.

According to the Sheldon ANA grading guide, an AU58 coin would need to have almost full mint luster.

Agree AU-58. High grade copper in particular often does not exhibit a great deal of luster.

Looking at the reverse, do I see wear on high points of lower ribbon and side flowers? The obverse seems free of problems w/very slight hint of luster, not much. On that basis I'd give it MS60 front w/ AU58 rear. Not a truely even coin.

This coin has full AU58 sharpness but the luster is poor and the color is off, too dark and brown. Look under the eagle on the obverse and see what you see there. The big stain at the date would derail it a bit for me, and the reverse also has a lot of contact marks + a rim bruise @ K10-K11 area.

That's a really nice FE! I know where I should see wear, and I'm not seeing much if any. I generally suck at grading MS coins, so I'll leave it at that.

This coin could be a low end Mint State piece. It certainly has a better than average strike with all of the detail showing. It all depends upon the amount of luster that pops up with the coin is swirled under a strong light source. The photo makes it look dull with no luster.
