I was looking at an upcoming auction and their pictures stink. Thoughts?

I also find the interface and entire look and feel of it awkward and inconvenient. I don't look at them anymore except to spectate. I'll watch Pogue go down for example. How often do you see 1804 dollars and 1792 dismes go down?

I recently bought a wonderful addition to my collection of Oregon Trail Commemoratives from them at auction and was very happy with the item. A 1939-P in PCGS MS-67 is a four figure coin retail and my winning bid was around $450. PG

IMO they have been VERY slow to catch on with internet sales. I am sure it is a reflection of their typical clientele. That I can now search by year in an upgrade over a few months ago...

I bought an Indian 8 Anna proof restrike from S&B a couple of years ago. A great coin and NO problems whatsoever with delivery

I have bought some very important coins from Stacks-Bowers auctions. I don't really understand the "Their pictures stink" comment. To me their photos are better and more reliable that the photos in some of the Heritage auctions, and I've bought big coins from them too. If you go to the high resolution photos, which can be reached with a nearby button, you get some very good photos that provide an accurate view of the coin.
Having said all of that, Stacks' has had a lot of trouble with their on-line bidding software from the historical perspective. It might be better now. The last coin I purchased from them worked out well, but my history with them over the last five years has been something else.
The biggest trouble I have is with navigating their site to find a specific coin or track my bids. That is still a problem for them. I don't know why they can't hire the best web site programmers in the business given the amount of money involved for them.
Still they have sold and will continue to sell some very important coins and collections, and for the advanced collector they continue to be a valuable resource.

Can you post a link to an example where their "pictures stink"? Their photography is some of the best, imo.
I've bought from them in the past and they exceded all of my expectations.

IMHO, Stack's & Bowers are top shelf. I've bought from them and had but one problem in the past ten years. One coin in a lot of six pieces purchased was absent; this, due to a listing error. They refunded a large percentage of my purchase price, leaving me a happy camper. Great catalogues & pics, IMHO!

The photo looks pretty decent to me...enough so that I wouldn't buy the coin.
