Does this look altered? The hair does not seem right to me. This is an 1893-S where only one obverse die was ever used.

The seller makes no mention of any alterations, and in fact states "this coin ... has been nearly perfectly preserved."

I am not sure why anyone would alter the hairline on a 93s. The coin has been polished. This would be one that the die markers would need to be checked to confirm whether the coin is genuine.
Rest in Peace

You pointed out a few, I'm looking at the large " upwave" to left of Y, slight down. Above this wave the second on original is curved, ?coin is straighter. There are other fine points of question, so I don't think its altered, too many differences to do that is either another die or fake coin. Know you've probably checked weight, right? Drop test too?. Big ? For me!

Personally, I wouldn't buy this coin raw.

The seller was estate-coin.

There was one and only one die used to strike all the 1893-S Morgan dollars. This was an ebay listing, so no weighing or dropping was possible.

The overall appearance suggests plating or extensive polishing. The distinctive die gouges present in R and T of LIBERTY on a genuine 1893-S are notably absent in your first picture, as is the die gouge between the lower wheat leaf and upper cotton leaf. The coin was right to be removed. The appearance of the cheek is possibly due to bubbling of plating. Looking at other features such as the cotton bolls, leaves, and eyelid, the suspect 1893-S shows a clear lack of detail. All in all, the coin, taken as a whole, is entirely too questionable to be sold as-is without certification.

Many of their coins, upon review, appear to have been cleaned, re-colored, or otherwise doctored, with some particularly egregious offenders like their 1899/1908 IHC and 1920-D Wheat cent. Almost all are extremely overgraded (check out the "XF" 1816 Coronet, "VF" 1808 CBH, or the "Ch. VG" 1873-CC Lib Seated 50C, I want to get sick.) These guys need to be tossed off ebay and into a dark hole to drown in their inventory of cleaned, doctored, overgraded, overpriced garbage.

Seller's listing has this gem...

"Estate-Coin has been a trusted and reliable ebay coin dealer for years. We have been using ebay since 2000. We continuously maintains a perfect 100% positive feedback rating."

ebay says otherwise:
