It wasn't an e-Bay transaction. It was a private/public online auction. I paid about $3.00 for it so I am not out a great deal. I just thought it interesting that damage like that could occur with no outward sign of environmental damage. I mean there were no watermarks or marks of any sort on the cardboard sleeve or holder. The only thing I can assume is high humidity. I am still working on the coins in an experimental cleaning type way and will let you know if I have any success.

Hopefully you didn't spend too much on it. I'm with the others; put the face value towards a set in better condition.

Chalk this one up as a learning experience. Crack that thing open and release those coins into the wild. The roll/coinstar hunters will be thrilled when they find your coins.
Rest in Peace

They may be more interesting for someone to find in their change and ask themselves what they are...

Who knows . . that penny may end up on ebay as some rare variety with a ridiculously exorbitant bid price!

Not really worth any trouble. A new set is only a few dollars. Almost the face value.

The cent is a goner, impossible to save. However, I'd take that nickel out and try to save it. The verdigris is primarily on the rim and the obverse has what looks to be some nice rainbow toning.

Pretty close(for Montana), I'm just outside Thompson Falls.
